Materialistic Dreams

If someone asked me to name of the biggest problems of the world today, I would undoubtedly reply with materialism. Rather I believe it’s capable of being defined as an epidemic. Rapidly spreading day to day from each corner of the world to each and every age group and all social circles, a contagious epidemic. From the rich to the poor, the kid to the adult, from men to women, its increased rate of spread has engulfed us all. Covering our eyes with the blindfolds of lust for money, anesthetizing our conscience, overpowering our will to differentiate between the valuable and worthless - materialism guides us to tread on the paths that lead us astray from the world of fundamental realities.
This uncanny desire to please the world rather than acquire self-satisfaction is indeed tough to comprehend. Changing our ideologies, reshaping our views, carving them with the tools of appeasing others, materialism has even caused us to drop on things deep down our hearts still approve of doing. One of the most major attacks that it has made on us is in the form of forcing ourselves to believe our goal isn’t to earn a living rather live for earning.
Ever ask a kid what he dreams to become when he grows up and you’ll end up listening to some fantasizing ideas, sometimes even far from the realities of the world. As that kid grows up you’ll sense a touch of realism in his reply which will now begin to express his real desires and everything is absolutely fine till that point until the realism is infected by materialism and now his goals evolve from fulfilling his dreams to fulfilling his desires, desires bound by cash. His choice of field of work is no longer limited to what interests him; rather it now revolves around the concept of maximizing his profits. It is indeed great to add luxuries to your life but it takes a detrimental form when it is all that you want.
Sadly a major fraction of the population today doesn’t  opt for something that enthralls them, rather what could possibly amplify the amount of their earnings, aggregate their savings rapidly and upgrade the quality of their belongings. Shattering ones will to pursue their dream careers this materialism equips us with the heartlessness to give up on our passions, only for the sake seeking a better financial status. We let ourselves fall prey to people’s opinions that it is far more important to turn your life into a dreamland, rather than living in the land of your dreams. It is far more important to not buy luxuries with the money you earn, rather by dreams that aren’t even yours. Our youth has lost the faith in being able to satisfy themselves with what they do not what they earn. This growing influence of money in our world and lack of guidance has indeed damaged the thoughts of our youth. It is high time they are reminded no luxury can replace the self-satisfaction acquired by doing what we enjoy the most, not what enables us to earn to the maximum.
